Why do you want to minimize plastic waste?

We are surrounded by plastic almost all the time – it can be used for several purposes and it‘s cheap. What’s bad about it: Plastic needs at least 500 years to decay. Approximately 13,000 plastic particles are found in every square kilometer of the ocean surface – allocated throughout the world by ocean current. It is estimated that the proportion of plastic makes 75 per cent of the North Sea’s waste.

Furthermore, most plastic products are made from crude oil and need great effort to manufacture – which accelerates the consumption of fossil exhaustible resources. So use of plastic should be well-considered and radically minimized.

Water-Neutral means to us that goods are being produced water gently: We use natural ingredients that grow without artificial irrigation, e.g. bamboo. In addition, we solely use colors that don’t contain mineral oils or other chemical additives and that therefore don’t leave any residues in the drinking- and groundwater when composted.

We don’t want to put any unnecessary harm in the world with our actions. That’s why our products don’t contain animal products and aren’t tested on animals – VEGAN. All our products are fair trade because fair labour deserves FAIR wage. Period!

We produce our toothbrush in a factory which specializes in bamboo products. The company is in China, because that is the place where bamboo grows naturally. This company is already FSC certified and has the CE label, which confirms that the product complies with all relevant Health & Safety Requirements. In addition, the factory has an award from VDE, a German institutes which again tests the products on product safety with regard to the medical condition, which is very important to us in terms of the color of the brush.

Hydrophil deliberately donates 10 per cent of their profits to Viva con Agua because they believe that it must not be possible that by 2016 there are still 780 million people in the world that don’t have free access to drinking water. Also there are nearly 2.4 billion people that don’t have access to sanitary facilities. We want to do our stint to change that.
